परेतकाले पुरुषो यत् कर्म प्रतिपद्यते ।विनाशायात्मनोऽधर्म्यं प्रतिपन्नोसि कर्म तत् ॥

— श्रीमद्वाल्मीकिरामायणे अरण्यकाण्डे एकपञ्चाशस्सर्गः (३१ श्लोक) “Only a person who is in the grip of death, will be interested in doing adharmic acts”, warned Jataayu to Raavana. Saying thus he advised Raavana to return SeetaMaata to ShriRaama.

अनुबन्धं अजानन्तः कर्मणां अविचक्षणाः ।शीघ्रमेव विनश्यन्ति यथा त्वं विनशिष्यसि ॥

— श्रीमद्वाल्मीकिरामयणे अरण्यकाण्डे एकपञ्चाशस्सर्गः (२६ श्लोक) “A foolish person who acts as per his will, without worrying about Dharma, will perish soon, like you (are going to perish soon by ShriRaama’s arrows)”, warned Jataayu to Raavana. यथात्मनस्तथान्येषां दारा रक्ष्या विपश्चिता॥ अर्थंवा यदिवा कामं शिष्टाः शास्त्रेष्वनागतम् ।
