Mareecha spoke this memorable shloka to Ravana, while requesting him to pay attention to his dharmic teachings “O Ravana! Majority will only speak things that his master likes. Rarely will there be someone who preaches dharma, which may not be to the likes of his master. Even if there is someone who preaches dharma, then it is even rarer for the master to listen and follow”.

In summary, we must always be in the company of those who are dharmic, not those who simply praise whatever we do. More importantly, when dharmic people advice us, we must try our best to follow even if it seems to be temporarily painful.
