नैवमर्हथ मां वक्तुं आज्ञाप्तोहं तपस्विनाम् ।

श्रीमद्वाल्मीकिरामायणे अरण्यकाण्डे षष्ठस्सर्गः (२२ श्लोक)

ShriRaama spoke the above shloka while replying to Rushis who came to Him seeking protection:

“O great sages! You requesting me is un-appropriate. I must follow your orders instead.” 

This beautiful shloka not only teaches that protecting Saadu-rushis is a primary duty of the king, but also glorifies the humble nature of ShriRaama. Even though He was the emperor and moreover the Rushis were then seeking His help, He spoke with such humility and respect to them.
