श्रीमद्वाल्मीकिरामायणे अयोध्याकाण्डे चतुर्दशोत्तरशततमस्सर्गः (३१ श्लोक)

Describing the poor state of the palace without ShriRaama and Dasharatha, Valmiki uses this shloka:

“(Without the presence of ShriRaama and Dasharatha) the palace is as un-auspicious as a day without the Sun, where the Devatas restrain from having food and water.”

Shastras declare that “मेघच्छन्नेह्नि दुर्दिनम्”. Since such sun-less days are left by the Devatas (without consuming food/water), we also should refrain from eating food and drinking water. In other words, one should consume food and water only after seeing the Sun-God.
