परिपालयमानस्य राज्ञो भूतानि पुत्त्रवत् । तत स्तं द्रुह्यतां पापं यस्याऽऽर्योऽनुमते गतः ॥

— श्रीमद्वाल्मीकिरामायणे अयोध्याकाण्डे पञ्चसप्ततितमस्सर्गः (२३व श्लोकमु)

Bharata spoke this note-worthy verse while pledging before Kausalya that he was not involved in sending ShriRaama to the forests:

“If I was involved, then (because of that sin) may I get that महापापम् (great sin) of plotting against a dharmic king who protects his subjects like his own kids”.

Hence one must never even think of harming those who protect people (eg. a dharmic king).
